Google is phasing out third-party cookies in Chrome during 2024, a major shift affecting online advertising and user privacy. Brands must adopt new strategies and technologies in this evolving digital landscape.

2024 is starting strong. We’ve barely been in the new year for two weeks and haven’t even finished our list of resolutions before new developments keep popping up. As usual, here we are with another edition of our newsletter to bring you the latest trends and tell you what’s cooking in the digital world. Oh, and for the curious, we’ll tell you what we’re up to at Nömad. 😉

Without further ado, let’s dive into Trends&News!

The end of Google cookies.

Third-party cookies are fundamental for online advertising, allowing brands to track and understand user behavior on the internet. However, Google has announced a significant change: the end of these cookies in its Chrome browser. The goal is to move towards greater online privacy.

On January 4th, Google announced the progressive phase-out of third-party cookies in Chrome, a move that will continue throughout the year. This change responds to growing concerns about user privacy and the need for a safer and more transparent internet. First-party cookies, those set by the visited website, will continue to function due to their importance in the browsing experience, remembering preferences such as language or login information.

The post-cookie era will demand a more balanced approach between data collection and respect for privacy. Strategies based on first-party data and the use of emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, to better understand consumers will be crucial. For brands, a scenario opens up where they must explore new forms of interaction and engagement, such as contextual marketing, which offers relevance without relying on personal data.

Brands that adapt quickly and adopt a more user-centric approach will build a stronger and more reliable relationship with their audience.

Social media trends that will define 2024

New year, new trends to take note of and keep your strategies up to date. That’s why we’ve compiled the 7 trends that will shape social media this year and that you should follow very closely.

◼️Social Media SEO. More and more people are using social media to search for information. TikTok is an example of this and, like YouTube, its content ranks on Google.

◼️Long-form videos. Videos longer than a minute are coming back strong. But, they must be valuable and grab the user’s attention from the very first second.

◼️More interaction. Social media platforms will place more importance on actions like sharing or saving, as they represent real value compared to followers, likes, or replies, which can be bought.

◼️Communities. Communities are emerging as a tool that fosters stronger relationships with customers, allowing for direct communication that can be key to building loyalty and trust.

◼️Star formats. Take note. On Instagram, in addition to reels, you should bet on stories and carousels with valuable content. On TikTok, beyond videos, carousels are also succeeding. And keep an eye on YouTube Shorts and Threads, which are starting to gain ground.

◼️Artificial Intelligence. AI is a tool that not only helps shape your ideas, it is also your best ally for automating processes.

◼️Fediverse. Yes, we know this concept might not sound familiar yet, but we anticipate it is gaining a lot of importance and could change the social media landscape as we know it today. We are already preparing a post about it, so we will tell you more on our social channels soon.

In this post we talk about all these trends and also gave you tips to take note of and take advantage of them. ✍🏼
