HOY Santa Bárbara Project

The HOY Santa Bárbara project revitalizes the Santa Bárbara neighborhood in Santo Domingo through vibrant art and design, involving local and international artists alongside community members.

The MODAFOCA agency, in collaboration with the Centro de la Imagen of the Dominican Republic, launches an initiative to revitalize and beautify spaces and communities. Starting with HOY Santa Bárbara. It reminds us of illustrators and artists Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn, of Dutch origin. They have filled the favelas of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil with color.

On this occasion, it is the turn of the Santa Bárbara neighborhood, near the historic center of Santo Domingo. This is the very reason why tourists and visitors can enjoy the entire artistic display, just as they do in neighborhoods like Wynwood in Miami or Las Ramblas in Barcelona. National and international artists have collaborated on the project. Among them were community residents, during a week full of art supported by private companies and public institutions in the city.

At Nömad we celebrate these types of projects, not only for their aesthetic and artistic value—and because we love them—but also for the social value they contain. It’s like living surrounded by art, making life for the residents of Santa Bárbara more beautiful and full of color.

This is yet another example that good design and art unite. The photos we used in this post are by photographer Guto Dion. We hope you like it and share this kind of good news!
