The 'Shadow Wifi' campaign in Peru used the need for constant connectivity to raise awareness about skin cancer risks. Users received free Wi-Fi by registering and standing in the shade, highlighting sun exposure dangers.
The need to be always connected. The number one reason used by the agency Happiness Everywhere together with the Peruvian Cancer League, to draw attention to skin cancer. The operation took place on a beach in Peru.
Using a structure with devices that record sunlight, the organizers wanted to raise awareness about the negative effects of sun exposure on the skin for those who love sunbathing during the hours when it can cause the most damage. The strategy required users to register and stand within the structure's shadow. This allowed them to obtain a free Wi-Fi connection.
We at Nömad celebrate these types of social advertising strategies. User needs are a priority and the brand cares about such unfortunate diseases as skin cancer.
