Redesigning Norway's Banknotes

The Bank of Norway held a competition to redesign its banknotes with the sea as the theme. Two studios won, each designing one side, creating a bold fusion of figurative and pixelated maritime designs.
It all started when the Bank of Norway launched a competition to redesign their banknotes, with the sea as the main theme.
The most surprising part of this story is that there were two winning proposals. Each winning studio was tasked with creating one side of the different banknotes to create a very bold and visual fusion.
On one hand, The Metric System works with quite figurative illustrations about the sea and the maritime history of the Norwegians, and on the other hand, Snøhetta, who surprised everyone with a very bold and modern pixelated vision.
