The Council of Europe has approved the first international treaty to regulate AI, ensuring ethical use and human rights protection. Twitter ends its service permanently, and Apple introduces new accessibility features in iOS 18.

Europe to regulate Artificial Intelligence

The Council of Europe has just adopted the first legally binding international treaty to regulate Artificial Intelligence. The goal of this agreement is to ensure that AI is developed and used responsibly, respecting human rights, the rule of law, and democratic principles.

Below, we share some key points of the treaty:

  • Risk-based approach. The treaty establishes four categories of risk for AI systems, from lower risk to prohibited ones. High-risk AI systems, such as those used in judicial decision-making or law enforcement, will be subject to stricter requirements and obligations.
  • Ethical principles. The treaty is based on key ethical principles, such as transparency, accountability, non-discrimination, safety, and privacy protection.
  • Governance and oversight. The treaty establishes a European Artificial Intelligence Committee to supervise its implementation and provide guidance to Member States.

Although this treaty is independent of European Union legislation, it is expected to have a significant impact on AI regulation in the EU. The EU already adopted its own AI Act in 2021, which is similar to the Council of Europe's treaty in many aspects but goes further in some areas, such as the regulation of “unacceptable risk” AI systems, which are completely prohibited.

As for AI development companies, the new regulation will impose sanctions on those that violate the rules, applying even to providers outside the EU whose systems are used on European territory.

If you want to hear the opinion of an AI expert, in our latest podcast episode we invited communicator and YouTuber Carlos Santana, with whom we specifically discussed AI regulation and the implications for innovation.

The final goodbye to twitter.com

Almost a year has passed since we said goodbye to the blue bird overnight and X was born. Since then, changes to the platform haven't stopped, and there is little to nothing left of Twitter, except its domain. The twitter.com address still exists, but not for long. Elon Musk has already announced that the domain change to x.com will soon finish propagating and twitter will cease to exist definitively.

What can we expect from X in the coming months? For now, it continues its trajectory toward becoming an “all-in-one” app that encompasses different services without leaving the platform, much like the Chinese WeChat.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Grok, an AI developed by X, is now available in Spain

X Premium users can now try the new Grok AI via a chatbot integrated into the platform itself. To do so, they can write their questions or requests in natural language, and Grok will process them and provide an appropriate answer. Its features include:

  • Information search. Grok can answer questions in a complete and informative way, using its real-world knowledge and its ability to process information from various sources.
  • Text generation. Grok can generate different creative text formats, such as poems, code, scripts, musical pieces, emails, letters, etc., and answer your questions informatively.
  • Image analysis. Grok can analyze images and answer questions about them, including their content, context, and potential uses.
  • Humor. Grok is designed to be witty and provide humorous answers to user queries.

TECHNOLOGY

iOS 18 will allow you to control Apple devices with your eyes

The Apple WWDC 2024 convention is just around the corner, an event where, in addition to news on Artificial Intelligence, the new iOS 18 operating system is expected to be presented.

Among the highlights, this update will allow controlling devices with your eyes, as shown in this video shared by our CEO, Pegu Jurado.

And with just a glance and a blink, we will be able to move through a website, a book, or a PDF. Although these new functions are designed to improve accessibility for people with reduced mobility or paralysis, it is expected that all users will take advantage of them, for example, if we use the iPhone or iPad with our hands full.

Storytelling can save your brand from the infinite scroll

Storytelling can help you grab your audience's attention and connect with your brand. But be careful, it's not just about telling a story. It’s also important to “hit the spot,” that is, for the brand to manage to connect emotionally with its audience.

In our latest post, we talk about this and give you 5 tips for effective storytelling.

🍔Campaign of the week

The plan from Vicio for its executives to try “a real burger”

Without a doubt, one of the most viral videos of the last few days has been this one from Vicio, which has carried out an ingenious marketing campaign to promote its products against its main competitor, McDonald's. The action, carried out during the 30th McDonald's Annual Convention in Barcelona, consisted of infiltrating the hotel where the company's executives were staying and leaving them boxes of Vicio burgers with signs saying “McDonald's, eat Vicio in secret”.

This is what we call good storytelling.
