Goodbye Twitter, Hello X

Nödo · 31 jul 2023
Twitter has rebranded as X, replacing its iconic blue bird with a new logo as it aims to become a multifunctional platform. TikTok and other tech companies also reveal key updates this week.
Who said holidays? Certainly not social media platforms, which surprise us every week with news or some change or another. Like the farewell to Twitter, the legendary blue bird network that will now be called X. Or TikTok, which, along with Meta's Threads, also wants to capture users disappointed with Twitter.
These and other featured news items of the week are part of the sixth edition of Nömad Trends & News, in which we also turn on summer mode with our favorite campaigns of the week.
Let's get started!
Goodbye Twitter, Hello X

On Monday, when logging into Twitter via the web, we encountered a surprise that left us speechless: its iconic blue bird had been removed and in its place we found a simple X. At first, the change only affected the logo in the top corner of the website, but within hours you could see how the X was gradually taking over the social network. From its favicon to its official profile, which, by the way, goes from being @twitter to @x.
User reactions were swift. A large majority were against Twitter being renamed X and expressed their anger at what, in their opinion, is an illogical decision.
⇢A user even dared to propose an alternative to the new logo.
Of course, Elon Musk weighed in on the matter and justified the change as follows:
“The name Twitter made sense when it was just 140-character messages going back and forth, like birds tweeting, but now you can post almost anything, including several hours of video. [...] The name Twitter doesn't make sense in that context, so we must say goodbye to the bird.”
So, where is X heading? Everything points to it becoming an “all-in-one” platform, similar to China's WeChat, which will combine its social networking features with the ability to make online payments.
For now, we just have to keep an eye on the evolution of the now almost extinct Twitter, whose blue bird can still be seen in the app version.

The Latest

TikTok debuts text-only posts
Following the changes on Twitter, other platforms are looking to capture disappointed users who are looking to switch social networks. A few weeks ago, Meta announced Threads. Now, it's TikTok's turn, which will allow the creation of text content with a 1000-word limit and the possibility of adding background colors and stickers to their posts.

Amazon, Meta, Microsoft and TomTom create the alternative to Google Maps
Google has been dominating the mapping and digital maps sector for almost 20 years. However, several companies have joined forces to compete with it. It is a major alliance between Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, and TomTom, which have announced the launch of Overture Maps, a new open-source map.
The four companies have included 3D representations in their map that allow the world's cities to be viewed from a different perspective. Furthermore, in their app, you will be able to see the global road network derived from OpenStreetMaps project data and more than 59 million points of interest records that have not been published until now as open data.
Did you know…?
A brand is more than its logo.
The thing is, we'll tell you now that with that logo you made in 5 minutes with a certain app and have already put on all your social profiles, you are not building a brand.
Building a brand is…
- Fostering recognition through a solid corporate identity.
- Thinking about how your company is going to relate to the public.
- Maintaining quality and consistency in your communication.
- Building an emotional connection with your customers.
Need more reasons? In our latest post, we tell you more about why branding should be a priority in your strategy.
Brands in summer mode
Loterías y Apuestas del Estado has launched its traditional campaign to announce that their Christmas lottery tickets are now available for purchase. With "Yo también soy de aquí" they reclaim the feeling of belonging to the place where we spend our summers. As part of the action, they have created the landing page yotambiensoydeaqui.es, where you can find out your demonym based on your province of birth and the province where you spend your summer.
Another summer campaign we love is that of the airline company Easy Get, which shows how characters from famous works also seek to disconnect and go on vacation.
